It’s official. Microsoft is shutting down Skype in May 2025. For many, Skype was their first experience with video calls. But over time, we’ve moved on to Zoom, Teams, Messenger, and Viber. Here’s a simple tribute to a platform that connected millions.
This may not be shocking, but it definitely brings back memories. Back in the early 2010s, Skype was one of the most popular apps for voice and video calls. It was simple and easy to use, especially back when Messenger didn’t even have video.
But over time, things changed. When the pandemic started in 2020, people shifted to Zoom and Microsoft Teams almost overnight. These tools worked better for meetings and online classes. Then for everyday use, people started using WhatsApp, Viber, and Facebook Messenger instead.
Skype slowly faded into the background.
Today, we barely think about it. Video calling is now something you do with just one tap. It’s part of the apps we use every day.
Just like Skype was once ahead of its time, your website should also grow and evolve with your audience. Whether you’re a local business or working with clients worldwide, we’re here to help you stay connected online.
So thank you, Skype. You helped make long-distance communication easier when we needed it most. You may be gone soon, but you won’t be forgotten.
